This last week I released updates to two of my most popular apps, My Stream Timer and My Cadence. The last few months I spent a lot of time thinking about “Pro” features for both apps based on feature requests. My Cadence has already had a Pro mode where users could see additional stats why they spin, but now with this update they have a full history of every ride.

This feature was a more involved process as I put in a full database, added the ability to continue rides, and coded the pages to display history with a full graph of the ride. So far being out just a few days I haven’t seen any large spike in “Pro” upgrades, but maybe there is more I can do in the app to highlight these features.
My Stream Timer on the other hand has never had a Pro mode and only had in-app purchases to become a patron of the app. That changes with this release as I changed the name of the tab to “Pro” from “Patron”. I then decided to add new formatting options for output and more timers for “Pro” users. Today is day seven of the phased release, so we will see what happens.

I always battle over what it the right thing to do with in-app purchases, and if a one-time purchase it the right way to go or if I should have a subscription. I do know that a paid app model has not worked well for me in the past unfortunately.
📰 PBS Frontline
I am addicted to PBS Frontline documentaries. I can’t help myself; they are so good and now available on YouTube. This week I found myself obsessed with watching the 2014 documentary on the NSA leaks of nationwide surveillance. It is spectacular.

Another series that captured me for 4 hours is on the 2008 crash called Money, Power, and Wall Street. The journalism and interviews on all of their documentaries are great.
